OX2 România and Nala Renewables announce the start of the construction works at the 99.2 MW wind park in Galati County

noiembrie 15, 2024, 16:30
The construction work has started on the Green Breeze wind park, an important project for the development of renewable energy in Romania. The project was sold to Nala Renewables (“Nala”) in August 2024 and according to the agreement, OX2 will further build and operate it with Nala Renewables overviewing both.

Located mainly in the municipality of Cuca in the county of Galati, Green Breeze is a major investment in the energy future of the region and the country. With a capacity of 99.2 MW, it will consist of 16 Vestas V162 V162-6.2 MW™ turbines, with delivery to start in summer 2025. The project’s grid access is secured through a connection contract signed with Transelectrica in March 2023 and the commissioning is planned for 2026.

“We are delighted to mark this important milestone for one of Nala’ largest projects to date. We will be overviewing the construction and operation of this large 99.2MW onshore wind park through our active construction and asset management teams. Romania is one Nala’s core markets with a solid outlook for renewables and an investment grade rated country with strong government support for renewables. This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our team and demonstrates our ability to secure contracted assets and capitalize on the increased demand for renewable energy power purchase agreements from multinational organizations. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the coming months in Romania and the broader CEE region,” said Remy Verot, COO at Nala Renewables.

"We are committed to being a reliable, long-term partner for Romania's energy transition and this is another step in that direction. After recently finalizing the first OX2 partnership in Romania, we are now starting the construction of this project for which we will manage the entire lifecycle, from development to operation. Green Breeze highlights the successful collaboration between central and local authorities and renewable energy investors for a sustainable future of Romania," said Lăcrămioara Diaconu-Pințea, Country Manager OX2 Romania.

The Green Breeze project was acquired in August 2024 by Nala Renewables, a joint venture between IFM Investors and Trafigura. The transaction includes a 12-year PPA agreement with a multinational corporation.

Project financing is being provided by Erste Group and its subsidiary Banca Comercială Română. The terms of these agreements are not disclosed.

Once commissioned, OX2 will be responsible for the technical and commercial management of the project, overseeing operations and optimizing with Nala’s Asset Management. The wind park's forecasted annual energy production is 312 GWh, covering the annual electricity consumption of 51,000 households and contributing to a reduction of about 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year1).

The Green Breeze wind power plant will be equipped with Vestas turbines, the civil works, as well as the medium voltage grid, including the indoor substation will be covered by CJR Renewables, while the 110 KV underground power line and the substation for connection to the transmission grid will be produced by the Enevo Group - Siemens Energy consortium. The project was developed together with Kompact Grid, which will continue to provide technical assistance to OX2 for the construction phase together with Bilfinger Tebodin (OX2 owner's engineer).

OX2 is one of the European leaders in the renewable energy sector with a portfolio of around 50 GW in development, construction and operation. The company is active in onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaics, as well as hydrogen and energy storage technologies.
