Power to progress

We’ve accepted one of the greatest challenges of our times. By increasing the amount of renewable energy available and, at the same, generating benefits for both the environment and investors, we constantly drive progress towards a common goal – a sustainable future.

In our industry, that translates to financially profitable, large-scale energy solutions, powered by forces of nature. Wind power is currently the most efficient technology to achieve that. As the industry for renewables evolves, we are constantly looking for commercial projects and business opportunities which can further contribute to making the energy sector sustainable in the long run.

Our vision is
sustainable

Our vision is a 100% renewable energy sector. When it comes to realizing this vision, few have OX2’s expertise, experience and entrepreneurship. Our operation covers all stages of wind power development – from project development and acquisition of project rights, through financing, procurement and construction to management. We work closely with local stakeholders and decision-makers, landowners, municipalities and other developers within the sector, as well as investors and offtakers.

Within large-scale onshore wind power, OX2 has developed and built, over the years, more than 2 GW of wind power, and is building still more, making us currently one of the leading operators in Europe. Our goal is to provide investors with the most profitable wind farms in the markets where OX2 operates.

OX2 has around 150 employees working at various sites in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, France and Germany. The head office is located in Stockholm, Sweden. Sales revenue in 2018 amounted to EUR 413 million.

When it comes to driving the change to a 100% renewable energy sector, our energy never ends.

A history of progress

2004

Johan Ihrfelt and Thomas von Otter establish OX2. The aim is to provide profitable, sustainable large-scale energy solutions to the energy sector, financial investors and major electricity users.

2007

Financing of around EUR 20 million from Handelsbanken obtained for the 16 MW Röbergsfjället development in Sweden. First time ever that project financing has been used for Swedish wind power.

2010

OX2 and its partners procure Sweden’s largest repowering project at Nässuden, Gotland. 38 turbines (18.4 MW) were taken down and replaced with 21 new turbines (63 MW).

2011

The first agreement is signed with IKEA for Korpfjället wind farm (21 MW) in Sweden. Three years later, IKEA becomes energy independent in the Nordics. OX2 has signed a total of six agreements with IKEA totaling 325 MW in Sweden, Finland and Lithuania.

2013

Construction starts at Maevaara wind farm, Sweden, owned by German insurance company Allianz. A PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) is signed with Google, who uses the electricity to power its data center in Hamina, Finland.

2016

OX2 and Allianz sign 21 MW wind power deal for Jouttikallio wind farm marking OX2’s first wind power project in Finland. The same year, OX2 wins the EPC contract for Raskiftet wind farm (112 MW) and the construction of the first project in Norway commences.

2017

Financing of Valhalla project, Sweden, comprising 85 wind turbines (366 MW) is secured. When completed in 2020, it will be one of the largest onshore wind farms in Europe. This is the fourth agreement between OX2 and Aquila Capital who has acquired 593 MW in total from OX2.

2018

OX2 builds Northern Europe’s largest subsidy-free wind power project for IKEA in Finland. With 950 MW under construction, this year, OX2 builds more wind power than ever before.

2019

OX2 concludes wind power deal for EUR 300 million with Ardian for Åndberg wind farm in Sweden. The 2019 Sweden’s Best Managed Companies recognition is awarded to OX2 by Deloitte in cooperation with Nasdaq.
